Two Great Journeys

Two Great Journeys explores the potential for indigenous and white cultural meetings to be enriching for both, when the symbolism of their respective faith journeys is celebrated together.

.

In the shimmering of summer
There’s a story to be told
Of a journey ’cross the land bridge long ago
To a place of quiet Dreaming
In a country vast and old
Where the Rainbow Serpent made the waters flow

Great south land, spirit land
Desert, hills and sea
Journey on to the land of song
Enlivened by mystery

In the wuthering of winter
There’s a story to be told
Of a journey out of Egypt long ago
To a land of hope and promise
For a people bought and sold
But they spurned the gods their forebears used to know

As our paths become a meeting
And the land our sacred space
We are moulded and transformed by spirit’s call
There is room for other journeys
Other people, other ways
And the great god-spirit arches over all

All the elders past and present
And the cloud of witnesses
Help us understand the earth’s unwritten law
And the Spirit moves within us
To respect our diff’rences
And renew the peace abiding here before.
