Parodies

Because not all of life is serious, and humour is an essential part of being human, I thought I’d post here a few of the parodies I’ve written — beginning with the one I mentioned in my song page intro, and in no particular order after that.

While Shepherds Washed Their Socks By Night

While shepherds washed their socks by night
All seated round a tub,
An angel of the Lord came down
And said “I’ll help to scrub.”

“Fear not,” said he, for they had feared
He had no socks or soap.
“Good tidings of great joy I bring,
And also bring you hope.

“To you in David’s town this day
Is open’d a bright new line —
A laundromat to wash your clothes,
And this shall be the sign:

“The laundromat you there shall find
With clean white clothes displayed;
All newly washed, and ironed too,
Then in the window laid.”

Thus spake the seraph, and forthwith
Appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God, who thus
Addressed their joyful song:

“All glory be to God on high
And to the earth be peace.
Clean clothes henceforth for heav’n and men
Begin and never cease.”
