Globally, humanity and our world are teetering on the brink of destruction. It remains to be seen whether we can take enough action in time to avert it. If we don’t — well, if we don’t, the twenties decade will look like this 😦
Note: When I first wrote this, it had no refrain. Someone suggested I add a refrain which a protest crowd could join in with, so I did, taking inspiration from Greta Thunberg’s repeated calls for adults to believe the science on climate change and act with urgency. I’ve included the refrain lyrics even though I haven’t added it into the recording.

2020 was the year
That people really knew that things were bad.
Ice was melting way too fast
And rising seas took all that some folk had.
Fires here and flooding there,
Governments who didn’t care,
Companies still mining coal
On the land that white men stole,
And elders’ voices fell on deafened ears.
We will no longer sit in silence,
Now is the time to heed the science.
2021 went by
And all the self-destructive lies went on.
Blinded fools said all was well,
Denying signs the world would soon be gone:
Methane gas and CO2,
Microplastics choking you,
Millions more of refugees,
Corporation tyrannies,
And rich men sure that they, at least, won’t die.
We will no longer sit in silence,
Now is the time to heed the science.
2022 came round
And now the peril lurked at every door.
More and more were seeing
That they should have taken action long before:
Curbed emissions, planted trees,
Cleared the garbage from the seas,
Powered with the wind and sun –
Everything that could be done –
But now their efforts fell on deadened ground.
We will no longer sit in silence,
Now is the time to heed the science.
2025 soon came
And now the sense of urgency was strong.
Politicians round the world
Admitted all too late that they’d been wrong.
Driven by the lawsuit cost
And the money that they’d lost,
Made new laws in desp’rate fear,
Prayed for Jesus to appear,
But still looked round for someone else to blame.
We will no longer sit in silence,
Now is the time to heed the science.
2030 was the time
We knew that all humanity was doomed.
All the life resources of a
disappearing world had been consumed.
People dying in their droves,
Fighting over fish and loaves,
Pestilence and pain abound,
No salvation to be found –
Destroyed by our own fatal paradigm.
We will no longer sit in silence,
Now is the time to heed the science.
